With the winter months slowly coming to an end and spring right around the corner, athletes and amateur sports fans are prepared to start stretching their muscles. With fantastic climates and gorgeous scenery throughout the country, individuals will find the perfect location to perfect their practice. Here are some of our favorite activities to do!
Hiking
The Holy Land is a hiker’s paradise, offering incredible hiking opportunities no matter what level of fitness interests you. If you are serious, attempt the 580-mile long Israel Trail or seek out one of the country’s trails through nature reserves, deserts, or in the mountains. All of Israel’s hiking trails are marked by colors painted on rocks, as well as having maps available at all trails.
Running
Running is arguably one of the fastest-growing sports in Israel. Races, marathons, and triathlons take place throughout the year. The annual “Run for Peace”, for instance, runs from Ein Gedi to Masada and back. Whether a fan of cityscapes or more natural areas, the Holy Land boasts terrain for any type of runner.
Biking
A few years back, the government approved a five-year, multi-million dollar plan to promote the country’s booming cycling industry. Israelis and tourists alike are realizing how convenient biking around the Holy Land and encompassing cities can be! Trails are popping up all over the place from Tel Aviv, to the Negev Desert, and throughout the Galilee region. Biking is a fantastic way to explore the country!
Swimming And Beach Activities
Don’t let the size of Israel fool you when it comes to available beach time! Blessed by three seas (the Mediterranean, Dead, and Red respectively), the Holy Land is home to some of the most pristine waters in the world. Whether you’re interested in taking a refreshing dip in the waters or more interested in staying dry and playing some pick-up soccer with your friends, Israel’s beaches are nothing short of beautiful!
Dancing
Israeli dance incorporates a wide variety of dance styles, from traditional folk dance, to ballet, flamenco, ballroom, and the internationally-acclaimed contemporary dances that are sweeping the world. Excitingly, plenty of free, outdoor dance parties often take place in summer at city-sponsored events. The annual dance festival of Karmiel, for example, takes place in the capital of the Galilee and hosts four full days of dancing.
Yoga
With the recent awareness of yoga’s benefits, centers have sprouted all over the Holy Land including parks, at the beach, and in gyms. Workshops are organized regularly for students, like the Prana Yoga College in Tel Aviv, which offers daily classes for all levels of practice. Children, young adults, and the elderly have all adopted yoga as part of their daily regimes. Plenty of hotspots exist in which to stretch your limbs and relax!
With the beautiful landscapes of the Holy Land, it’s no wonder why so many individuals are getting involved with some type of athletic activity. Whether young or old, Israel has something to offer you, no matter what level you’re at! With beautiful weather coming soon, it’s time to brush off your sneakers and hone your skills!
