Nazareth Villiage

Nazareth Village

If you’ve ever wondered what small-town life was like for Jesus, visit Nazareth Village, an open-air museum offering a “must-see” authentic picture of village life in the Galilee during the 1st century.

A 10-minute walk from the city’s center, Nazareth Village offers visitors a living witness to the story of Jesus’ childhood, ministry, and teaching, paired with elements of everyday life re-enacted by local volunteers, dressed in traditional garb, performing the duties customary to their respective trades.

Head down the shepherd’s path and onto the “parable walk”, and you’ll see farmers plowing and threshing wheat, and olives harvested from ancient trees, sorted and pressed. Visit the 1st-century wine press, carved into the bedrock, and witness ancient farming practices along the terraces that stood during Jesus’ time. These farming methods bring to life Jesus’ well-known parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-23; Mark 4:1-20; Luke 8:1-15). Enter the carpenter’s house for a first-hand look at the art of ancient woodworking.

While tours can vary in length, a typical tour takes approximately 90 minutes, beginning with displays providing context of Jewish life as it was during biblical times. Groups can visit exact replicas of a mikveh (a Jewish ceremonial bath), a weaver’s house, as well as other parts of the village and farm. Another highlight of the village tour is a visit to the synagogue, a 1st-century-like structure carefully constructed based on the pristine ruins found at Masada and Gamla. In addition, visitors can see a reconstructed stone tomb, one of the newest exhibits at Nazareth Village.

Groups can also experience 1st-century cuisine in the stone dining area, which can hold up to 270 people. Served on pottery recreated in the style of archaeological finds, meals are customized according to individual preference. Visitors can also enjoy the large unique gift shop.

Nazareth Village is the ideal place for anyone looking for a one-of-a-kind experience where the crossroads of past and present meet.
